I have seen a lot of problems with KDE acting up after upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3. A lot of those problems are resolved after removing or renaming the ~/.kde directory. If things work out well without doing that, then rock on!

I see Nvidia has released new stable drivers, v190.42. Time to give them a shot.

Also, I've used the new K3B a few times, and it has worked without a hitch. That's very nice to see.

i removed all .kde stuff and tried again, the multimedia control panel is
still dying immediately.
The console shows that phonon could not load backend. No more information.

After playing around a bit with the configuration (wanted to disable all
those shadows and effects and bouncing, sliding, switching, flipping, dancing things) my screen garbled and
the box completely hung, could not switch to console, had to cold reboot.

make sure that you have upgrade all packages and installed new packages that are available on Slackware-Current tree

i upgraded from 13.0 to current just for 4.3.2. it seemed to work okay until i enabled compositing. after that X would crash hard at seemingly random times. i have never experienced anything so unstable before. since then i've switched to xfce and have been using compositing with no problems. i've completely removed kde from my system and i doubt i would ever use it again. i actually prefer the simplicity of xfce now. and since their window manager supports compositing it looks cool too. all i really care about is transparency. i find most of the other effects annoying after a while.

No problems here, even with the old configuration (~\.kde) the upgrade was smooth and clean...

Is the panel at the bottom meant to be some kind of grey colour by default? I'm really just wondering if I've broken anything when I upgraded. I removed all the KDE 4.2.x packages and my ~/.kde directory before installing the 4.3.x packages.

In my limited use of KDE 4.3.x, I haven't found much that's different to 4.2.x. I guess I'll discover more as I use it more.

Right-click on the desktop and choose Desktop Settings. Only there can you change the theme, and hence the color of the taskbar. I use the Oxygen Theme, and the taskbar takes on the color and transparency of the Desktop Wallpaper.

I installed the new Nvidia drivers, 190.42, but the result was the same. Screen redraw issues with KDE 4.3.2 and desktop effects disabled. Didn't notice any issues while desktops effects were enabled...

4.3.3 is out now, they are moving too fast

Not really. It's a monthly release and it has been doing so since KDE 4.x released

Does anyone know if you can define an area at the edges of the screen that windows and the panel will not go into. I have an 1080p tv/monitor and if I use a standard monitor cable I can get 1440x900 but if I use an HDMI cable I get 1920x1080, however the edges of the screen are behind the black plastic surround, and this cuts of about 5mm of the windows and panel when they open. I know that I have seen this somewhere but I cannot remember where.

Ahh, I've been out of the loop on that. So I wonder then if there can be some automated way to package them up each month and put into -current.

Since I'm running KDE-4.3.3 and recently upgraded, one of the packages had been removed and required that kdemultimedia be reinstalled. Since then, my radio stations skip horrendously. So I need to know how to set the buffer for the sound the way we used to do with KDE-3 in the control panel?
