KDE 3.5.6 on Slackware 11.0 gives Alert

I installed the new KDE 3.5.6 on my Slackware 11.0 system, maintained with slapt-get. I installed the pkges from Linuxpackages site. This new version of KDE seems to work better with one exception:
I use to boot in consolemode, choose (if needed) KDE with xwmconfig, and issue startx.
Now KDE starts (somewhat faster then the previous version), however I get an Alert with title:
'Error kDesktop', that says:
The KDE mediamanager is not running.
Plus an OK button.
I click on that OK button and the Alert goes away and .... everything works well: I can play a video with sound, my kdetv works OK ...
I don't know what the 'KDE mediamanager' is.
Can anybody explain what is happening and what
I have to do to avoid this annoying Alert.
FYI: I recently replaced Freerock Gnome by Dropline Gnome. This Dropline Gnome works OK and does not give a diagnostic Alert.

This may be related to hal, but I am not certain. A few posts that I have read about regarding Slackware and KDE seem to suggest that hal is necessary for a lot of the media management that takes place within KDE. Since Slackware does not include hal by default, Dropline GNOME installs hal along with its own setup. The version of hal with Dropline may not be compatible with KDE.

Go to Storage Media from Konqueror (Go>>Storage Media), now click on any drive icon that is not mounted, and you'll get the reply "Feature not available without HAL". That's the problem when KDE Mediamanager is not running.

Smile Install these packages.

I had the same problem.

Ken Zalewski the person who created the packages on the LinuxPackages.net site says the following regarding this problem: "In summary, in order to move to D-Bus 1.0.2, you must do the following: 1. Install dbus-1.0.2; 2. Install dbus-qt-0.70; 3. Install hal 0.5.8.1-2kjz; 4. Install kdebase 3.5.6-2kjz."

You will need to go to one of the ftp servers to find those packages such as: here

Install the following packages from the server:

dbus-1.0.2-i486-1kjz.tgz from here
dbus-qt3-0.70-i486-1kjz.tgz from here
kdebase-3.5.6-i486-2kjz.tgz from here
hal-0.5.9pre-i486-1kjz.tgz from here
