kde-3.5.5

I just read that KDE 3.5.5 ist out.

How can I adapt it on Slackware 11.0 without compiling it myself? Will there be packages from Pat?

There will eventually be packages in the -current tree. I'd wait for it to come out and/or keep checking www.linuxpackages.net

Isn't it risky to use packages from "current" as they could be broken?

And are packages from linuxpackages.net trustworthy?

I've used the "unofficial" Slackware packages that appear on the KDE mirrors with good success with the 10.x series of Slackware.

no linuxpackages.net is about the worst place you can get a package from

I prefer to download them sources and compile KDE on my own. I has always worked for me. I know, it's like a day or two but it's worthy

To expand a little bit:

'Clean Enviornment' means just the standard Slackware default install. No gnome, not -current, whatever. If a program has been compiled/packaged in a 'clean' enviornment, odds are, it will work on most Slackware systems with the same version number (i.e. 10.2, 11.0). If compiled/packaged on a system with gnome on it, for example, the package may require other programs that are not part of the Slackware default install, and as such, may not run on your system.

As for 'trustworthy', read the docs and notes, and try them if you wish. A blanket statement of 'No' is just plain silly. I have downloaded/installed packages from linuxpackages.net, and have had no issues. But I do study the docs etc. first.

I use linuxpackages.net's downloads only get I need to, i.e. when for some odd reason I can't compile from source certain package but if I install the tgz it works flawlessly
