Question kde 3.4 compile problems (kdesdk and kdevelop)

so im upgrading my slack 10.0 to kde 3.4 for the most part the install is going fine. kdelibs first, then base then started adding on some of the other packages.

My main reason for upgrading to kde 3.4 was to get kdevelop 3.2 installed.
While compiling kdevelop i get the following error:
Code:
cvspartimpl.cpp: In member function `virtual bool
   CvsServicePartImpl::checkout()':
cvspartimpl.cpp:367: error: no matching function for call to `CvsService_stub::
   checkout(QString, QString, QString, QString, bool, const char[1], bool)'
/opt/kde/include/cvsservice_stub.h:27: error: candidates are: virtual DCOPRef
   CvsService_stub::checkout(const QString&, const QString&, const QString&,
   const QString&, bool)
so, a friend of mine (who recently upgraded to 3.4) said he thought it might need kdesdk first so i tried to compile that and got this error:
Code:
/opt/kde/include/kresources/resource.h: In member function `KRES::Resource*
   KRES::PluginFactory<TR, TC>::resource(const KConfig*) [with TR =
   KCalResource, TC = KCalResourceConfig]':
/usr/local/qt/include/qvaluelist.h:289:   instantiated from here
/opt/kde/include/kresources/resource.h:405: error: cannot allocate an object of
   type `KCalResource'
/opt/kde/include/kresources/resource.h:405: error:   because the following
   virtual functions are abstract:
/opt/kde/include/libkcal/resourcecalendar.h:78: error:  virtual bool
   KCal::ResourceCalendar::load()
/opt/kde/include/libkcal/resourcecalendar.h:91: error:  virtual bool
   KCal::ResourceCalendar::save()
/opt/kde/include/libkcal/resourcecalendar.h:233: error:         virtual void
   KCal::ResourceCalendar::update(KCal::IncidenceBase*)
anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

are you upgrading from cvs code or archives(tar.bz2, tar.gz)?

Just grab the kde packages from slackware.com -current. They worked for me. I think you also need the latest arts, also from slackware.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Thanks Andy, that worked and got KDevelop installed.

So now it's just intellectual curiosity ,
anyone got an idea why i was having the compile errors?

If i'm not wrong you have to first update some other KDE packages like kdelibs before updating that. On most big softwares like KDE or Gnome (just to name desktops) you need to compile things in a specific order and generally if you need to upgrade just a part you'll need to upgrade the rest.
