KDE 3.3 is izzout

Word.

I went over to the KDE site and started reading up on the new KDE 3.3. I have never upgraded my KDE (or my x.org) before, so I was unaware of how complex and time consuming a process it turns out to be. The KDE site tells me to compile it myself, so I take a look at the download page and get greeted by like a bajillion KDE components. I'm assuming I would have to upgrade all of them. That would take ages...

Is there an easier way to do it? I loaded up swaret and looked for KDE, but I was reluctant to let it try to instantly "upgrade" it. I've heard to many stories of people who have fubared their KDE by not asked before they monkey with things.

So I'm asking.

Please advise.

Under the contrib directory at kde.com there are slackpacks in .tgz form. Download them all to a directory and use upgradepkg *.tgz to install.

Done.

I have been using 3.3 for a while now (using the *tgz's from kde.org) and it works fine on my system. Don't download their version of QT though it can cause you problems when trying to run KDE, use the one from Slack.

Try slapping a .org on there in place of that .com

hmm that looks as though it may be a scam to get money.. not sure.

By the way, you want to remove all the old kde packages first then do installpkg, not do upgradepkg. Look at the readme beforehand.

Too late.

I already went ahead with the upgradepkg. Everything seems to work fine.
