Kde 3.3

HAs anyone tried upgrading to kde 3.3 on slackware 10?
I saw they has kdebase 3.3.1 on linuxpackages.net, but couldn't find the other packages like kde-libs 3.3.1.

Will the upgrade work just by upgradepkg kdebase-3.3.1.tgz or will it break kde?

thanks

Go to http://download.kde.org/download.php?url=stable/3.3.1/ and pick a mirror. Then open the link to Contrib, then select Slackware, then select noarch, then download (to a folder you will have creted to hold them) the language(s) you need. Go up to the Slackware directory again, choose your version (either 9.1 or 10.0) and download all the .tgz files you need. Close all programs and exit X (use ctrl - alt - Fn and log in as root), remove all kde packages - I typed removepkg kde quanta and when completed, cd into your downloads folder and run installpkg kde. Reselect kde from xwmconfig and log into it as root. Log out and log in as your user, set up KDE and enjoy.

While I'm usually of the tweak-it-until-it-breaks school, I'm wondering if the advantages of KDE 3.3 outweigh the risk of system corruption and instability. My Slack 10 system is running like a clock now, but the lure of a major upgrade is strong.

I read over the what's new stuff about KDE 3.3 and nothing knocked me over. Did I overlook some good stuff?

Thanks.

I don't think that KDE 3.3 is much of a change over 3.2. The sound them on log in is different, it feels newer (and we all like new things ) but overall, it is only a .1 upgrade (and not even that much - 3.2.3 to 3.3.1). But then I understand that people who use more of it will see the difference.

4 should be awesome.

3.2.3 > 3.3.x lots of tweaks to PIM (Kmail, Kallendar, etc.) package.

Also, there was a major change in aRts from 3.2.x to 3.3.x both in the code, and the binary (agressive optimisations in KDE 3.2.3 aRts that comes with Slack 10 are known to crash some systems.)
