kde 3.2.1 on NEC laptop problems
I finally got KDE3.2.1 to start on my laptop and cannot run Mozilla etc. If I try I get
GDK-WARNING **: error converting from UTF-8 to STRING: Could not open converter from 'UTF-8' to 'ISO-8859-1': No such file or directory and relocation error: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_unsetenv This is a clean install of kde, no earlier versions were installed. |
So switch to the current version. 3.2.2, and find out if it still does that.

The latest Slax livecd 4.1.1 works fine and that is kde 3.2.1 on Xfree4.4 and 2.4.26 kernel too.
I scrubbed the installation and put on 9.1 "ALL" packages and this works - even the sound. The only obvious error is repeated insmod intelfb, one to go into the hotplug blacklist, which already has many other h/w specifc fb drivers listed. |
Now update to latest "current" and all working except the sound which seems to be a known problem with the intel8x0 and alsa 1.04.
I can only think that either the ORDER of package installed is important or that "current" is actually depending on some remnants of the "9.1" installation. |
