I'm just about to download and install K3b for use on my slackware 10.2 powered machine.
I have a feeling that the requirements list on the K3b web site is already met by the installation of the first two disks of slack. Can anyone confirm or correct me on this before I go ahead with the installation. The reason I'm concerned is also that while the K3b site gives good instructions on installing K3b from source I'm not entirely sure how to install the requirements. Indeed I need to find some resources on instaling new software to Slack in general and am currently exploring this.
The way that I ensure that everything is installed is this.
1. Install the package you require. (As root - installpkg package-name)
2. Run the command from the command line.
3. Read the error message.
4 Install the required package to remove the error.
5. Goto 2
Or if you have swaret installed
1. Install the package you require.
2. Run swaret --dep

You know that you can find a official k3b slackware package on every Slackware mirror in the "extra" directory? It should work out of the box without any further piece of software I think.
Yes, i can confirm that the default slackware install has all the requirements for K3b.
Also, if you are using a 2.4 kernel make sure that you have the line append="hdc=ide-scsi" in your /etc/lilo.conf (re-run /sbin/lilo after adding it and then reboot)
Wow, I don't know why I didn't notice that extras directory before, thanks very much, makes things much easier. That's a good tip to bare in mind for the future though samac, thanks.
Depending on what you want to use k3b for, not ALL the requirements are included (depending on your usage of the word REQUIREMENT), but it will run.
Install the official Slackware package. Then, run k3b.
Look under the menu "Settings -> Configure k3b" On the right, click "Programs" You will see that some are not found (therefore limiting the functionality). The nice thing is, you just install those programs (it works installing the programs after k3b). Then, you can do things like VCDs and such.
As you quite rightly said, it runs pretty much out of the box for straight forward data and audio burning, that was a well timed and useful tip though, I had been wondering if I could add the other software post installation in order to enable greater functionality. Now I know
By the way, I have also found your site really helpful in installing and setting up Slack, reading the content gave me a great confidence boost when I decided I wanted to run Slack as a newbie to linux, and I love it.
