K3b indicated speed higher than speed of DVD+R

I installed K3b-0.11.17 from the Slackware site. It burns CDR's and CDRW's fine. When I tried to burn a video dvd I got the "Failed to change Write Speed" error. I searched on LQ and found this to be a common problem. I "fixed" (translates to "worked around") the issue by checking the ignore speed button when burning. The thing is this, I put a 4x DVD+R in the burner and burned a movie. The speed indicator of K3b says it was burning at 6x-8x throughout the process. The DVD is only a 4x DVD. The odd thing is that the DVD played fine in my DVD player. Is the indicated speed inaccurate or am I just lucky? I can't slow it down as it only burns DVDs in the "ignore speed" mode. Any ideas on this one? Also, has anyone found a fix for the "Failed to Change Write Speed" error? Thanks

BTW- I'm running Slackware 10 (current).

Wow, this is the first time I have asked a question and "stumped" the panel. Is there a prize?

The speed problem is not a problem, I do not know what dvd drive do you have but my Plextor PX-708A can burn DVDs at higher speeds, for example, a DVD+R (and just +R) of 4x can be burned at 8x with no prob, however this dependes on the brand of de DVD.

The error in k3b I don't know, mine burnes all dvds at full speed, I can change it, but when it starts burning it ignores the speed I wanted , for example, I can put a DVD+R at 2.4x but he will burne it at 8x.

try the " raw " data under burn options. This is the only way with my internal philips.
