dracolich, thanks for the tip. The output you saw above was from being logged in as root, starting up X, and then trying to call up k3bsetup via konsole. I only used konsole because the k3b setup option was not available through any of the menus--like it was when I login to X as a user. Weird.

I'll try a reinstall of some sort, but I was using the official cds (via bittorrent by way of The installation went off without a hitch.

hmmm... i wonder what happened to fsck up my perfectly working k3b. The funny thing is that, after googlin a bit i always end up finding the answer here. (chmod 666 /dev/hdc if you ask)
