K3b DVD Ripping "Unable to Mount..."

Hi All,

I was surprised to learn recently that K3b is able to rip dvd's and audio cd's so I've been playing around with this a bit. I believe I've loaded all the necessary dependencies but when I choose K3b > Tools > Rip Video DVD I get the following error message:

"K3b was unable to mount medium (Video DVD) in device MAD DOG-MD-16X3DVD9-8X"

K3b works perfectly in all other aspects. I use it to burn movies, rip audio cd's, burn data dvd's, etc. But when I try to rip a DVD I get this message.

It almost sounds like a permissions problem? But I'm pretty new so I don't know. I'm scratching my head figuring out how to solve this.

Any ideas?

Dig

Well, you do realize that there are 2 main ways in which data is represented on a CD/DVD:

1) data within a filesystem, which you can mount and inspect at will
2) raw data outside of a filesystem, which CANNOT be mounted, but instead ripped

I've never used k3b for ripping, but it shouldn't be mounting anything if it wants to rip anything. I usually use DVD::rip to rip DVDs.

Yeah I don't know what k3b was trying to do there, but I upgraded to the newest version and I no longer get the error message. Now the ripping dialog opens up like it should and I can make my encoding selections, but transcode reports that k3b is passing it bad parameters then fails. I think ripping is still pretty new in k3b... and buggy. I'm going to give up on it for now and give dvd::rip a shot. Thanks.
