Have an interesting problem with k3b.

When I have the init set to 3 in /etc/inittab and startx to log into KDE, I can access k3b to burn a cd through either root or my username w/o problems.

Recently, when I switched the setting to 4 in /etc/inittab and log into the username, I get an "Xlib: connection to ":0.0: refused by server, followed by various components not connecting to X server, such as kded, kdeinit, and finally k3b. It then says communication problem with k3b, it probably crashed.

Works fine in root.

If I switch back to init 3 in /etc/inittab, everything works fine with k3b.

Any ideas?

do you start k3b form console in kde or from start menu/panel launcher?
why don't you post more of the error mesg

i never had such problem with k3b, my slackware is in runlevel 4
