just installed slackware64-14 and it doesn't detect wireless or ethernet

Hi all. I just installed slackware64-14. I followed the step-by-step instructions and chose the kde user interface. It boots fine, I can log in fine, and I can type startx and the kde desktop comes up. But on the panel I have the red box with the "x" indicating there is no internet connection. I checked to see if the wireless is switched on (hardware-wise) and it is, and I even tried an ethernet cable, but nothing. I have tried netconfig in terminal with both DHCP (just chose host name: hegira and domain name: domain (that is what I saw in some other threads), and I also tried autoconfigure using network manager. Neither are leading me anywhere. Can someone please help?

Did you configure your system to use network manager? About halfway down the page on the above link walks you through setting up your network. Wireless will depend on what type of wireless card you have. Do you know what kind of wireless card you have?

Try this first,
Type in terminal as root, next:

# chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager
#/etc/rc.d/rc.networkmanager start

then,
reboot your computer, and that'll do the thing.
