Java cannot print with cups-1.3.7-i486-1_slack12.0.tgz

I recently upgraded to cups-1.3.7-i486-1_slack12.0.tgz following a Slackware Security Advisory.

I have just noticed that my Java applications would not print anymore. Following a suggestion I found on an Ubuntu forum I have downgraded back to 1.2.11 and I have printing working again in Java.

Pat did say about the upgrade:

Quote:
The change from CUPS 1.2.x to CUPS 1.3.x was tested here,
but if you're on a completely secured internal network these issues may be
less of a risk than upgrading.
Certainly for me staying with CUPS 1.2 is the lesser risk.

Why don't you write Pat and tell him about the issue?

I did last night. This is a bit of a cleft stick. On the one hand there is the security concern of cups 1.2 and on the other the Java issues with 1.3. This should really have been addressed by Sun by now and I am not aware that it has.
