jackstart problem

I can't run ardour because jack wont' start up. When I enter "jackstart" I get this:

Code:
jackstart: cannot get realtime capabilities, current capabilities are:
                =ep cap_setpcap-ep
probably running under a kernel with capabilities disabled,
a suitable kernel would have printed something like this "=eip"
How can I resolve this?

did you read the jack faq?

http://jackit.sourceforge.net/docs/faq.php

it tells you how to go about configuring realtime capabilities for the 2.4 and 2.6 series kernels.

Do I need to recompile my kernel? is it necessary to do so?
