Is upgrading to X11 8.6.1 worth it?

I remember glancing over some SWarET posts and they were all complaining about the new changes and that it was slower,etc...but now I can't find those posts...should I leave my X11 the way it is? Thanks!

I haven't had any problems with the upgrade, but then I didn't use swaret. I didn't notice much change one way or the other. I guess you could take the attitude of , if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Works fine here. There most likely talking about the new stuff such as real transparency and everything. Those features are still "HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL!" and should not be used by everyday people yet. They are both slow and very buggy :). Other then those features (which are disabled by default) Xorg 6.8.1 is stable and speedy.

If you have an ATI card and want to run X.org 6.8.1, don't count on it. It's incompatible for some reason. I'd stick to X.org 6.7 for now. If you want to use Dropline, just uninstall the X.org they install for you, which is 6.8.1 and reinstall the X.org 6.7 from the Slackware CD. You can read my faq on the forum if you want to set everything up just right.

I did, and I'm a happy camper because of it! You also helped me w/ my partitioning dilemma. You da man!
