Well, It takes much more effort to make me upset. After all I don't slap together bash scripts that package other people's work to make a living. And I'm no longer using Slackware, except for a VM I fire up in the weekend out of boredom.

Cheers

Must be something really egregious then, like maintaining an open-source OS and providing it to you free of charge.

I'm sure this thread used to be about Patreon which is, by the way, creeping slowly towards $2k a month.

Hello all

Just set up the price of a hipster coffee per week to be paid monthly. Bit miffed that I'm having to pay VAT (UK, Europe) but them's the breaks.

Hope this thing gets legs with pre-15 release publicity.

I find this perspective hard to understand. If you think Slackware is dead/horrible, then why be concerned with what happens in the world of Slackware at all? It would be easier to just stop following it completely and move on to greener pastures (or is it the "addictive" part that keeps you around? Waiting to see if something will change?). I personally like Slackware a lot and use it on all my machines, although the ultra-resistance to change obviously cuts against you when you need something that isn't in it and likewise isn't trivial to install (e.g., PAM, KDE5, pulseaudio, systemd, whatever).

That said, I agree that it would be nice to see some things change (for me systemd is not one of them ). It's a bit of a shame seeing all this defunct cruft on the website too. Anyway, I think everyone knows things have been financially tough for Pat lately, so here's hoping the Patreon account will make a bit of a difference. I'm happy to contribute to it.

Got in for 10$ a month on Patreon.
It looks like a good system for Pat if they don't take too much of a toll.

Here is a link regarding Patreon's pricing: https://www.patreon.com/product/pricing

There needs to be a sticky regarding funding Slackware on here.

Awesome. Just found out about all this and I'm in. I was worried.

I wonder what are the updates he has planned and when will they land? Will Plasma 5 be one of them, will it be some packages that Plasma 5 requires, or will Slackware be KDE free? What other things do you think he could include or is he talking about updated current packages only like a new kernel?

I am also very curious about his planned updates. It is fun to speculate about additions to the -current tree (KDE5, 5.x kernel?).
Only time will tell. I don't think that he will remove KDE(my opinion).

Ok - I bit the bullet and and opened a Patreon account - despite the gurgle image recognition program.

I did not realise that the creators of the slack store were ripping Pat off - cant have that now can we - gotta keep slack going.
