LOL, I recall Eric, in another thread, estimating 2,000+ users. Of course no way to know for sure....
Actually, I stumbled across a rather interesting link earlier today which gave all the operating systems accessing Wikimedia in June 2015. It's not comprehensive, sure, but it's the only link I've ever seen that goes some way to giving a realistic indication of distro popularity.

My guess is he is putting together some kind of formal announcement which will bring together something more than a forum/facebook post...
We can only speculate though...
