Question Is there a Novell client for Slackware?

Hi forum,

I'm working on windows and I want to move to slackware as my pc at home but at work they use Novell to map the different drivers.
So, I'm wondering if there is a Novell client for slackware?

I haven't touched any Novell server in years, but a simple Google gave me these two links:
Novell Client for Linux
Novel Client for Linux

Does your Novell server run IP or just IPX?
I remember vaguely that to run IPX on Linux you need to compile a custom Kernel. There is an option in the config file for it somewhere.

You could try downloading the rpm and then converting it by using rpm2tgz. It does look, though, as if Novell are trying to restrict it to their own systems.

Hi!
I'm also looking for some kind of novell client suitable for slack. Did you get lucky?

I think all you need is ipx but it's been so long that I can't remember.

The standard slackware should have the ipx module. If you are booting huge it might be built in. If you are booting generic maybe see if it loads. As root:
Code:
modprobe ipx
If this works but does not load all the time, look in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and uncomment line with ipx.

You should see ipx.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.24.5-smp/kernel/net/ipx

Once loaded you still probably need to search on how to set up username/password stuff on server you want.

Hi guys,

I appreciated your responses, unfortunately, I have been quite busy that I didn't have time to probe it. As soon as I install my linux I will let you know.

forum1793:
Regarding about IP or IPX. Well I took a look at the config file: notes.ini

TCPIP=TCP, 0, 15, 0
LAN0=NETBIOS, 0, 15, 0

Ports=TCPIP

So it is using IP and in the protocols on my windows, it just show up IP protocol installed and none IPX/SPX so just IP. Not need to reconfigure the kernel for now but I'm very skill on how to customize it, if needed.

grisen3: did you try it?
