Just purchased 8 new servers for our company. Slackware 64 -current on all of them.
So, nope, isn't dead this 2020!

Well considering -current tends to be more stable then most distros "stable" releases, I think he will be fine. It's not like he's running openSUSE Tumbleweed or Arch.

Lol. no. We provide some open source telephony services at asteriskite.com. I was in touch with you a few years back via FB, when we put Slackware into production first. Now I started another one PBXCraft.com, where I am chief cook and bottle washer, ha ha. The servers are for the new venture.

With the new inclusion of PAM, we will consider and work toward moving desktops to Slackware also. We support some 14k Linux workstations for customers, which are all Debian or Ubuntu, as they need AD integration.

There is separate sub forum for such questions. PEX? You mean pxe? I don't understand quite well. Do you want to install 5.4 new kernel on 14.2?

It actually isn't hard at all. I don't know if there's an easier "right" way to do it but I just used IsoMaster to open up the iso and follow my nose to replace all the bits I wanted to update. I just use a File Manager in Split mode to compare the original to the one I'm altering to feel certain I'm not missing anything. It is important to be able to check if the bootloader is still in place and fix that if it's not and lots of apps can do that. IIRC IsoMaster doesn't do that, or I don't know how to access it if it does, but lots of iso manipulation apps do that so it's easy to modify, rebuild to iso and burn even if it's for a USB stick instead of an optical.
