i hope we're not a dieing breed...i'm old but not dead yet...been a slacky since '95 - 2.0.29 and still have a box running it and a quake server for the kids
i don't run slack, slack runs me...
i've tried em all...IMO slackware is the epitomy of linux - its clean, its stable, it runs and runs.....
i'm glad bill did windoze and i have slack - otherwise i'd be poor and have nothing to do.

No, Slackware is not a dieing breed, I think that we can expect slower updates and release cycles from Slackware for a few months yet because Pat has more important issues at hand right now. Pat also has a close circle of friends to help with Slackware should he be unable to continue, I think one name has already been mentioned in this thread. Slackware has been around for over 10 years so it is not going to be packed in at the click of a finger.

slack works

I am using slackware not because I think it has a particularly large userbase or is the easiest OS around, I use it simply because it works and others don't. I don't like hunting around for dependencies (Red hat 4 cd's) funny how the rpms you really need are often only to be found on RHN (which you have to pay for...sound familiar?) I also don't like using a OS made for schools which can't afford Windows (and therefore as windows like as possible)Ubuntu. In my experience Slack is THE MOST UP2DATE OS around. And it works.

ps: sitting next to me is a copy of:
Ubuntu
slackware 10.2
RH 9
Fedora Core
Debian

and I have based my above statements on reviewing these OS's
