Is it safe to upgrade Slackware thru swaret?

Is it safe to upgrade Slackware thru swaret? Or is installing from scratch a better option?

I have done it a lot of times and its worked fine on every occassion. There are some people on this forum who will try to convince you that using swaret is not a good thing, but it does work, so if you comfortable using it, then go for it.

I went from 10.0 to 10.1 with no trouble. I still haven't gotten X to work with this shitty old monitor, but other than that its AOK.

check out http://shilo.is-a-geek.com/slack, especially the "I wanna be updated" and "working updates" sections. Lots of folks have reported success. I think as long as most of your programs do not stray too much from the normal, you should be ok. Check out slackpkg as well. It is inlcuded in /extras in current. Make sure to read up on each and understand how they work.

If you do use swaret, which I suggest you do not, READ BEFORE you run swaret > ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar.../ChangeLog.txt
