Is it possible to do a 'fresh install' using Slackware -current?

Hello:

I wish to do a fresh install of Slackware without KDE.

I could use my Slackware 13.1 DVD but I thought, why not give -current at try?

Is there a -current ISO or must I install 13.1, without KDE, and then upgrade to -current?

Or, is it possible to remove 'all things KDE' and then upgrade to -current?

Is this possible?

Thanks,

If you want to create an ISO for -current, you can use Eric's mirror-slackware-current.sh to download the -current tree and make an ISO. There's a link on his wiki, here.

If you don't want to burn ISO, you can download the slackware-current tree, copy it somewhere and use the slackware dvd you got there. Just point the source to the slackware-current dir.

It is also possible to install from internet with the slackware 13.1 dvd.

You can download an ISO of 'current' here,

http://taper.alienbase.nl/mirrors/sl...e-current-iso/

A new iso of 'current' will be available here each time 'current' is updated.

I prefer to use Eric's -current build script as it has a nifty feature. After the script builds your -current ISO it checks the md5 check sum to ensure that it will work properly. That is very cool. :)

Eric's script also has the possibility of downloading just what is needed to build a mini ISO and do a network install. Just did an install of March 22 -current from ISO's using his script.

Yes. I like the fact that you can customize his script. Eric's script can also be edited so that you can build a DVD or two -current ISOs. You can also edit the script so that it builds either 32 or 64 bit ISOs.

And remember that there is a "usb-and-pxe-installers" directory in Slackware's tree which contains a bootable USB image ("usbboot.img"). You can use that to create a bootable USB Slackware installer (minus the packages which you then have to install over the network), or use the "usbimg2disk.sh" script in the same directory to create a bootable USB Slackware installer including all packages on the USB stick... but then the stick needs to have more than 2 GB or free space.

Using the "usbimg2disk.sh" script works non-destructively (existing data on your USB stick will be preserved) but using the "dd" command to transfer the usbboot.img file to a USB stick will destroy all data on the stick.

Eric
