I would like to recommend LiNuCe's Gnome packages as an excellent option for a well built vanilla Gnome desktop in Slackware 10.1. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. Thanks for the great work!

Yea, I haven't had any problems either. It's really a shame Pat isn't taking an interest in Gnome anymore. I think he has always been a KDE guy anyway. I suppose I don't blame him. Gnome sucks to build. I much prefer to run Gnome over KDE tho. Actually, I refuse to run KDE...

So, It seems we have 2 different problems on this thread with one definitive solution on the gnome-settings-daemon problem... It's just that quirky gstreamer plugin that causes the problem.

On a side note, I tried Linuce's updated Gnome packages on my desktop and they work quite well. It looks as if he spent alot of time and care into making those packages. Gnome 2.8 has alot of nice features that aren't in Gnome 2.6......

I think this is just the way things are headed in general. KDE and Gnome are just becoming too large to maintain both properly - particularly by a small distro maintained by just a few (or one ) people. Even the larger distros seem to focus on one or the other.

Has this been confirmed? It seems likely, but I didn't think that any kind of official decision had been made.
