IPV6, Do I need it?

I've been using linux since slack 7.1 and I've always wondered, what is IPV6 and do I need it in the kernel for a basic desktop PC like mine?

you only need ipv6 if you are connecting to an ipv6 network. if you are not sure, then no you don't need it at all. you'd know if you did. if you're intersted in learning about ipv6 i'm sure wikipedia has a useful entry for it, after all it's meant to be the history of the internet... one day...

so basically for a stand alone system that just connects to the internet through a cable modem, then no.

Thanks
