iptables and firewalls and script kiddies, oh my!

Can anyone comment on this:

http://projectfiles.com/firewall/

Looks like all it requires is copying to my etc/rc.d folder, chmod a+x, and adding a line in my rc.local script to execute it, no?

I presently have no firewall installed, and was hoping that I could copy / paste this badboy over and get on with my life. Started reading the iptables howto, though it started out very warm and fuzzy, it quickly turned into something cold, with the fuzz removed by a rusty razor.

Would be nice if there was an IPTABLES HOWTO for beginners (maybe there is)

I probably should've worried about getting my firewall up first, before fiddling around with video/audio settings. I am probably owned, some script kiddie's biatch, and I don't even know it!

Muchly appreciated,

Murray

Installed it, i feel more secure already.

Yea, i used that, had my freind port scan me, i came up clean, so that should do good for you.

What kind of connection are you on? If I had anything faster than 56k I'd probably use arno's script tho, it is a bit more configurable and allows for loging.

dsl.

ok i will try arno's script, AFTER. i gotta get the audio video working to a satisfactory level before i worry about a little thing like.. security. PFFT.

maybe i'll try out my joystick tonight :)
