iptables and firestarter question

I decided to try out a program called firestarter ( http://www.fs-security.com ) for a firewall. I got it installed, but when trying to run it, I get the message:

Code:
Failed to start the firewall

Your kernel does not support iptables.

Please check your network device settings and make sure your
Internet connection is active.
I re-compiled my kernel and thought that I got all the right options. If it helps:

Code:
shilo@shilo2:~$ cat /usr/src/linux/.config|grep -i iptables
CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=y
Does anyone know what all the kernel options that are needed in order to run a firewall are?

As a note, I am running kernel 2.6.10-ck5. I believe that the settings for networking are all the same as the vanilla 2.6.10. Also, if it matters, I am running Slack-current with Dropline.

Thanks in advance,

Code:
shilo@shilo2:~$ su -
Password:

Is a computer language with goto's totally Wirth-less?

root@shilo2:~# modprobe iptables
FATAL: Module iptables not found.
root@shilo2:~#
Doesn't:
Code:
shilo@shilo2:~$ cat /usr/src/linux/.config|grep -i iptables
CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=y
Mean that iptables is configured into the kernel? Is their some other option that I am missing?

http://www.fs-security.com/docs/kernel.php

and the modprobe won't work, the Y does mean it is compiled into the kernel.

Thanks for your help, guys.

AlmostLucky: That is exactly what I was looking for. I really gotta read the sites I get these programs from bettter. I'll reconfigure as soon as I get home and let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks again.

***EDIT***

After compiling kernel following the guide that AlmostLucky linked to, evrything seems to be working. Thanks a bunch.
