IPSec + GRE on Slackware, How to choose packages

Hi,

Today if I would like to setup GRE over IPSec using Slackware, what packages should I go? I heard some terms like StrongSwan, IPSec-tools and I want to choose a right learning path.

BTW, if I also like to use ipv6, any more packages needed?

Thanks in advance.

Unless you don't have a specific need for IPSec and can go for an alternative, I'd strongly suggest focusing on OpenVPN. Here you have some comparison / discussion:

As for GRE tunnels, the last time I needed them I failed to use them. It was in a local big LAN, with the same gateway and GRE didn't like having the same gateway. Ever since I'm using un-encrypted OpenVPN tunnels instead of GRE.

Well, I didn't know what GRE was. So I read a bit and I don't understand why to do GRE over IpSec (or any VPN technology) ?

But it seems that Slackware have all needed to do GRE (ip_gre module, iproute2).

For IpSec, I guess you have to look at slackbuilds.

I can't say much or more, I just read about it out of curiosity. Sorry if it is useless.

I like to answer my question: I think StrongSwan is a way to do IPSec in Linux.

That was one of your questions. You might find this thread and the link Gerard Lally provided helpful:
