Ipodder on Slackware

Question: Has anybody tried downloading podcasts on Linux? More specifically, has anybody out there had any luck with the linux version of Ipodder? I've basically tried to get the ipodder rpm to work two ways:

1) I took the rpm available at and installed the rpm on my Fedora Core 3 box with no luck.

2) I tried converting the rpm to a slackpack with the rpm2tgz command and tried to install the .tgz package that resulted. No go.

The ipodder website said they could get it to work on Conectiva Linux. I know it is written in python so I made sure that I had all the development python libraries installed but it's still not working. My google searches have resulted in a conclusion that this isn't a common problem and I can't find any instructions for the program?

If anybody has gotten this to work, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is your problem iPodder can't start(run)?
Or is it not functioning as it should be (not talking with your iPod)?

Is this the error message you are seeing?
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in ?
    import wx
ImportError: No module named wx

That's exactly it. I get the same thing in both FC3 and Slack. It seems to me that ipodder isn't finding the python libraries or I'm missing a module. Or, I'm completely wrong. Conincidently, for a brief time the source code was posted to the linux ipodder site and I did download and attempted to install but didn't get far as I the format was a bit foreign to me. I'll try to find that package again but I'm pretty sure I deleted it and I'm on not on that box right now. That's about all I can add to my query, I'll go see if I can find that source package again and post the results.

I'm using FC3 too.

The solution to that error is to install wxpython.

The problem for me, after that, was this error:

[bob@JumboJet ~]$ ipodder
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "", line 1009, in ?
File "", line 1002, in main
myApp = iPodderGui(ipodder)
File "", line 98, in __init__
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/wxPython/", line 1951, in __init__ _wxStart(self.OnInit)
File "", line 165, in OnInit
AttributeError: iPodderGui instance has no attribute 'Bind'
[bob@JumboJet ~]$

Anyone with the clue to proceed beyond this?

So far I followed the advice of someone with a similar error to install the newest version of wxpython, which I believe is v2.5. A word of warning, though, is that this apparantly breaks quite a few things that depend on wxpython ... so proceed with caution before trying!! It did NOT solve my problem, hence the error above.
