invalid compressed format (err=1)

hi,

I just recently installed slackware 9.1 onto my computer and i've been having trouble getting it to boot. I used the bare.i kernel from the cd and created my boot floppies. The installation went smooth (i've now done it about 5 times) but when i reboot and try and load up my OS i get a

invalid compressed format (err=1)
System halted...

i've tried googling and the most i've been able to find is that it can have something to do with bad ram or something but i've tested all my sticks and they're fine. Also, i get a CRC error when i boot with my Labtec USB mouse plugged in. Any help is more than appreciated. thanks

Can you boot successfully from second CD ? If yes it is not RAM failure and you will able to mount your drive to try other kernels from cd by copy them to /boot
