interrupted upload corrupts all files in directory

Howdy slackers:

Twice, just uploading a wee photo to facebook, the upload has been interrupted by internet outages. Afterwords, on my laptop, the wee photo, and all other photos in the same directory are corrupt, by which I mean, gimp can no longer open them, and they're all listed as being 0K length...

The corrupted pictures are stored on an xfs file system. I know that my hardware is still good, and the rest of my file system is still in tact, and don't think my situation is serious enough to warrant an entire "dd" raw duplication of my partiton, in order to run recovery software on the duplicate.

So I am wondering if anyone knows a tool that can repair the directory while its file system is still mounted?

image format is jpeg

when I try 'display IMAG1540.jpeg', the error is:

"Empty input file `IMAG1540.jpg' @ error/jpeg.c/EmitMessage/235"

I know this is what backups are for... but I had just imported them from phone, deleted them off of phone, and not had them on laptop long enough to be backed up... just images of local flooding, but they're amazing pics... sad to lose them...
