Internet stopped working after running netconfig on 2.6.0

Okay new problem. The internet for me wasn't working in 2.6.0 as you can see in my other thread so in attempt to get that working, I tried running netconfig and used all the same settings I had used before (in the original Slackware install). Unfortunately, that didn't work and now I have a bigger problem. I can't get online on 2.4.22! It sends out the dhcpcdrequest to an IP that I can't remember (I think its the one for all routers 192.168.0.1 I think or something like that) and normally, a bunch of stuff starting with dhcpcd would follow provided I am connected to the router and everything. This time, that stuff didn't follow. Other stuff came up about modules and usb and yada-yada, then later on it says dhcpcd send timed out, or something to that effect (sorry the message goes by too fast to have it word for word) and then it sends another request. At the end of start-up my network connectiong (and naturally my interent connection) don't work! Any ideas?

Have you rerun netconfig since going back to the 2.4 kernel. You can look at the error messages by running dmesg. By studying them you might learn more.

Yes I have run netconfig in 2.4.22 although nothing happens and the messages are still the same. Also the errors don't show up in dmesg which is why I haven't posted them, they scroll by too fast to read them.

Okay fsck ran on one of my partitions at boot so I was able to see the message dhcpcd gives me it is as follows:

Code:
dhcpcd[139] broadcasting DHCP_REQUEST for 192.168.0.101

(a bunch of other stuff pertaining to my system)

dhcpcd[139] timed out waiting for DHCP_ACK response

dhcpcd[139] broadcasting DHCP_DISCOVERY
And that's it. My system is fully started shortly after the last message and the internet/network are unusable. It doesn't even give me these errors in 2.6.0 but why it changed in 2.4.22 is beyond me. I'm on Windows right now... I suppose there are uses for it other than burning Dreamcast games :P.

you can look at the dmesg output one screen at a time with dmesg | less

look to see what network driver is being loaded. I assume it is eth0 so try dmesg | grep eth0

you could be loading an incorrect module for your card.

Yeah I know you can do dmesg | less. I was doing dmesg | grep dhcp to try and find anything related to dhcp but nothing would return. I just did dmesg | more and looked through everything and the dhcpcd errors didn't show up. Weird. Anyway I find it hard to believe that I would be loading an incorrect module because the internet only stopped working after I did netconfig in 2.6.0. I had 2.6.0 up and running and I was able to get on my network on 2.4.22. (I had other problems relating to the framebuffer, so I was rebooting between the two quite often). It just doesn't make any sense...

Okay I fixed my problem. I just had to reset my router and cable modem and everything is working fine. Weird.
