Question Internet questions


Okay last night i JUST installed linux slackware 8.1 i know its a little out of date i will fix that soon. but im wondering how will i get online? i have a dialup internal modem, and i know almost zilch about linux. if anyone could give me a brief explanation or what not or even point me to one that would be helpful. currently im on windows which i have aol to post this with. my 2nd hard drive (20 gb) has linux installed, again is anyone able to help me?

As for the internal modem:

all stands or falls depending on
vendor & make :)

What modem is it?

Let's try to tackle it from there...

its a US robotics 56k internal fax modem (PnP?) v.90

ISA/PCI?
Can you somehow give us
the output of a few linux commands?

Like booting to linux,
entering the commands, copy files to
floppy and paste them here?
Have a FAT formatted floppy handy...
become root, then:

lsmod > ~/lsmod.txt 2>&1
lspci -vv > ~/lspci.txt 2>&1
mount /mnt/floppy
cp ~/l*.txt /mnt/floppy/

I believe its PCI. im like 80% sure...anyways im gonna go try those commands, bring back the output stuff...brb

as for the aol problem they are not supporting any other os then their software works but there are some progs to use under linux to connect to aol you can find them at freshmeat.net but the easiest is change your isp.
