Some of you mentioned converting RPMs. What version RPMs do you convert successfully (RH8,9, Mandrake)? Because theres lots of software that doesnt include source releases, and that would be nice sometimes. Thanks.

It has to do with what GCC was used, right? So then Red Hat 9 and Mandrake should work, right?

I dunno about versions. I just do
Code:
rpm2tgz someprog.rpm
and end up with a someprog.tgz file that works just fine...it's pretty nice

Like Wynd mentioned... it's just rpm2tgz packagename.rpm... I've successfully converted almost all RedHat-specific rpms, and quite a number of SuSe ones. Mandrake RPMs mostly fail... perhaps it's the way their packages are organised (according to their own weird placements of libs/headers/etc)...

Which incidently is why I made the switch from Mandrake to Slack as explained earlier in this thread
