Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller recognized by alsaconf but doesnt work

Hello.

Well, when I run alsaconf, it finds my 82801H and I go on to setting it up, it says it will run, but it doesnt run.

Quote:
Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.

Have a lot of fun!
But my song don't work, youtube works, but no sound in that, and i have tried running alsamixer to raise the volume to the peak.

I have a vague idea that, this sound card has difficulty in linux but all I get is 3 year old patches for gutsy gibbon and fixes that are non-slackware so I dont have the files and what not.

Please help, I have been trying, but never seem to understand why it says it works when it doesnt work.

Oh turns out, from thinkwiki, http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1984

its AD1984 actually, and it didn't work on 2.6.24.2 mine is 2.6.29.2 . hmmmmmmm....... anyone?

By default the snd-hda-intel module tries to automatically determine your hardware.
This may not be appropriate for your hardware.
http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentat...dio-Models.txt shows a large number of possible models. For the AD1984 chip there is:
Code:
AD1984
======
  basic default configuration
  thinkpad	Lenovo Thinkpad T61/X61
  dell_desktop	Dell T3400
You can check your chip by looking at the chip reported by alsamixer.

You can setup a file /etc/modprobe.d/hda-snd-intel.conf and include a specific model.
Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=<some model name>

will give that a try when I resume to slackware, however, I tried checking what Windows says, as the driver is working here, SOUNDMax Integrated Digital HD Audio from AnalogDevices. I presume, its the reason for AD in AD1984

Have you done the "alsamixer" and "alsactl store" steps?
Aumix is a real antique. It is probably looking for .aumixrc or /etc/aumixrc
