Installing ttf fonts


hi,

I have a '.ttf' font file that is needed to see the characters in a particular website. how do i install it so that firefox will be able to show those special fonts. i tried copying it into /usr/lib/X11/fonts/TTF directory but it doesn't work. thanks for your help

Make sure that the directory you put your .tft files in is listed in your /etc/X11/Xfree86conf file.

Make sure the directory is uncommented in the /etc/X11/XF86Config

In the directory you copied the .ttf font to, run the commands: mkfontdir, mkfontscale and fc-cache (I think the order is correct, but I'm not 100%)

Restart X.

You can also put the fonts in any other directory for example /usr/local/fonts
and edit the file /etc/fonts/fonts.conf by adding the line

<dir>/usr/local/fonts</dir>

where you see there are others. And at the console run fc-cache.
