installing stuff

Hi there, and Happy New Year to all!

How you install packages in Slack?
I have Slack 11.0 and want to install X, fluxbox, light web browser, light office suite (not OOo, or koffice) and some other stuff for X

My computer is old and I have on it an working Win98SE with MS Office 2000, and I'm curious if I can get something similar with slack packages.

thanks

Aren't X,fluxbox,lynx already installed?
For word try: Abiword, and spreadsheet-> Gnumeric
Lightweight browser -> Arora, etc : http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/...tions#Browsers

thans but I don't know hot to install. There is a package manager or something, how do I know the dependencies, etc

Well the Slackware package manager is known as pkgtool.
You install by running as root:
Quote:

installpkg packagename
Update by:

Quote:

upgradepkg packagename
Uninstall by:

Quote:

removepkg packagename
To know more about pkgtool read this: http://www.slackware.com/config/packages.php

Remember, pkgtool doesn't tell you about dependencies. You have to search and find out yourself.
Note: It would be easier if you get the source code and try building them manually using the Slackbuilds, if you get any errors during compilation, it will tell you about what libraries/packages are missing. You can then install them.

Thanks ~sHyLoCk~ I installed X but it doesn't start. Maybe I made some mistakes at configuration. First I didn't know what fonts to install and I'm not sure if I put the correct video card.

just curious, why didn't you do a full install?

also you should run

xorgsetup

to configure X. Do this as root.

As Daedra asked, why didn't you perform a full install?
