Installing Slackware Patches

I've been wondering which way I should install the Slackware Patches from patches/ on the Slackware server.

I want some sort of Gnome distribution for Slackware. I had originally wanted to use Dropline but when I installed it, it said something about the theme engine not working, plus some panel applets weren't working. So I want to use GWARE. However GWARE says I should install all Slackware patches.

Which way should I do this? I have downloaded the all of the patches and I was going to run:

Code:
upgradepkg *.tgz
I had installed Dropline inside KDE, but this time I will go into single user mode to install everything.

Would this work properly? I just want to make sure in case I kill my system (which I did when uninstalling Dropline but I realised that I should reinstall shadow to login and I fixed it)

Thanks people.

Actually, I exit X and do everything from the root CL, works for me every time. Just download the latest installer from the Dropline web site and use it to get the ball rolling. You can also download an ISO and then install from the CD.

If you are going to install DLG 2.12.1, make sure you have Slackware 10.2 installed. We have also seen some problems with systems that have been upgraded from prior versions of Slackware to 10.2 but even then most of the problems can be worked out. Actually most of those problems were due to the fact that people didn't follow the UPGRADE.TXT instructions and then not looking for any .new files on their system.

Later,

Thanks, I was thinking of reinstalling Dropline, (I only install Gnome, System Software, and Desktop Extras) But I still want to update my system with the patches and I still want to try GWARE.

Thanks Though.

Kourosh.

You can either install the patches just as you described. Download them all and do upgradepkg.

Another way is to use slackpkg. Do slackpkg update && slackpkg upgrade slackware

This will install all the patches and upgrades you need.
