installing slackware on an ataraid with more than one partition

Hello, i am totally new to slackware. i have used redhat on my system dual booting with windows xp.

when i installed redhat on my raid array i had to enter kernel parameters about the raid adapter (i am a newbie, so excuse me if i am incorrect, correct me) the parameters were something like:

ide0=0x1f0,0x3f5,14 ide1=0x170... and assigning ide's 2 through 9 to 0 (which disables them as i understand.

in slackware, i have tried booting with ataraid.i and raid.s and entering the parameters ide0=... and i can't find my partitions, when i type setup it says there are no currently defined partitions to install to. the /dev/ataraid directory is empty, i have already defined an ext3 and swap partition through windows with partitionmagic but i don't know how to find them, or if slackware is even recognizing them

i am using the gigabyte ga-7vaxp mobo with the pdc20276 controller, any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,
