installing slack9.1 via nfs or premounted directory
I have read some other threads on how to do this, but I'm not getting far. I have followed the directions word by word from the FAQ on slackware.com and I'm getting a message after using the line "mknod /dev/loop0 b 7 0" I don't know the complete message, but I think it has to do with the syntax I'm using. It gives me teh correct way of using mknod, which I don't really understand. I have a partition with the 2 iso cds of slack on it and I also have a ftp server which I can install from, whichever is easiest. Hope I gave enough detail for someone to help.
Ok, I'm getting close. The message I'm getting finally after entering that same line is "File exists" so I continue on with the install. Everything goes good until I have to choose the source. I choose premounted directory and it spits me back out to main menu.I'm close, too close. I also try running the command /INSTALL/slackware after I mount all the directories right and I get the message permission denied. Why wouldn't I have permission? Any help would be great.
YEEE-HAAAAWWWW I'm getting even closer. I got it to mount and finally get to choose what packages to install, then the bad news. I starts to install the files and about 20 seconds in it has errors on the packages, kinda like bad media would do. It says press enter to continue with next package, but that one is messed up to and so on and so on. I'm guessing when I copied the discs over network maybe it didn't finish right or something else. I'm getting even closer, but then what happens when I need to mount disc 2 for install? Should I be mounting both iso before the install?
Getting hotter. I finally got it installed. Although at the very end on the third to last package I got an error on it installing. I hit enter and it installed the remaining two packages. I installed lilo and configured the rest, but now I need to install some X. I need to install the contents of the second cd now, but I have no clue how to do that. I can login as root, but don't know what to do from there. Thansk
Ok. Well it's all working fine and dandy, I'm using lynx right now. I might start using it forever, or not. Guess I got lucky with slack. It found my wireless card with no problems. But I still need to install the second cd. Please HELP!!!!!!!
Download the ISO file to a separate partition, then you can mount the ISO file without a cdrom drive. Check the slackware faq at their site for instructions
