Installing Mythtv in slackware 12.1

I am at a loss as to how to handle the install of mythtv in slackware 12.1.

I am in the process of attempting to establish the functionality with slackware that I have with suse 11.0. I have managed much - including a working install of mysql, moneydance, passwordDragon - but without fully understanding what I was doing.

I have downloaded the following files from
"slackware-12.1/multimedia/mythtv/20080521" but am at a loss as to how to properly handle these files.

mythplugins-20080521-i486-1sal.tgz
mythplugins-20080521-i486-1sal.tgz.asc
Mythtv/mythplugins-20080521-i486-1sal.txt
mythplugins.SlackBuild
mythtv-20080521-i486-1sal.tgz
mythtv-20080521-i486-1sal.tgz.asc
mythtv-20080521-i486-1sal.txt
mythtv.SlackBuild
slack-desc
slack-required

I would greatly appreciate some pointers - even a link to some doc's that a brain-dead mvs system programming retiree can understand,

Thanks

Looks like these are from slackbuilds?

http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12.1/multimedia/

Download slackbuilds for the three myth programs to build packages (*.tgz). Maybe you already did this. Then install packages. Easiest is with kpackage in kde but can also use installpkg and pkgtool I think. Read up on these.

I have 3 boxes running myth on 12.0. I built my own packages from source. For basic functionality the only dependency you need is LAME (assuming you did a full install), so it's not very difficult to build it yourself. I had wrote my own scripts to start mythbackend but I believe that there are scripts for slackware now in the contrib directory. Out of the plugins I only use mythvideo.

If you would like mythfrontend to startup automatically under KDE enable the auto-login functionality and edit /etc/kde/kdm/Xstartup.

I can help anyone that needs any more specific info.

As far as I know the latest Mythtv-Version on svn 0.22 needs qt4 packages, so I guess this one should build under kde4.

But anyway, you don't need kde at all. I have mythtv running on a box with only xserver and xfce.
