Installing gphoto in Slackware

Can anyone provide step by step instructions for installing gphoto in Slackware 9? I installed libgphoto2 first, and when I tried installing gphoto itself I got the error:

Quote:
checking for libgphoto2 >= 2.1.1... Package libgphoto2 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgphoto2.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'libgphoto2' found
So then I set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/ and ran ./configure, make, and make install on gphoto. This time it compiled without any errors, but when I went to run gphoto by typing 'gphoto2' at the command line I got this error:

Quote:
gphoto2: error while loading shared libraries: libgphoto2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I know I have libgphoto2.so.2, it is in my /usr/local/lib/ directory. So how do I get gphoto to see it?

Hi there

I downloaded gphoto2 and libgphoto2 to check it out and I experienced the same problem that you did. The error message says that it cannot find "libgphoto2.pc", so I checked to see where libgphoto2 had installed it and found it in /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig. I then did the following after receiving the error that you got:
"export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig"
That fixed the problem for me. You may need to use "setenv" if you're using a shell like csh.

A more graceful way to fix it is by editing the file /etc/ld.so.conf and adding the location of your additional libraries inside it... eg add a line containing /usr/local/lib if it is not there, or add wherever dir it is your libgphoto2.so.2 file is in.

After that just run /sbin/ldconfig an your program should run properly.

BTW, all the above must be done as root

Check this link. Even though this guy did a debian install I used these instructions to build and install gphoto2 from source on one of my slackware boxes. It worked for me.

try this for libgphoto2 and gphoto2

./configure --prefix=/usr

this puts the .pc files in /usr/lib/pkgconfig instead of /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig... I did this and had great luck.

hmm...I installed libgphoto to /usr/local/bin and ran ldconfig and got this:

omegatank:/home/alex/gphoto2-2.1.3# ldconfig
ldconfig: /lib/libgphoto2_port.so.5 is for unknown machine 36902.

ldconfig: /lib/libgphoto2.so.2 is for unknown machine 36902.

ldconfig: /lib/libgphoto2_port.so is for unknown machine 36902.

ldconfig: /lib/libgphoto2.so is for unknown machine 36902.

Any ideas?
