I am installing Firefox in Slackware 10.0 and am in the Firefox setup screen and it asks for destination directory (it shows where I downloaded Firefox to which is my users account name /Desktop/Downloads folder. Not in root account) Do I need to make a different destination directory? Also can I install this program from my user account or do I need to be root? If I can from user account, what steps do I take? Also do I need to install the same program twice i.e.- in root then user???
I have read the install directions but they are somewhat unclear.

If you only have one user who uses firefox the best place to put it is in the user's home in a seperate directory (e.g. /home/bruce/firefox ). If you have more users who want to use firefox, a systemwide install is the best to prevent for installing more than once. /usr/local/lib/firefox would be a possibility.
I would not encourage to use browsers as root user, it's a serious security risk nowadays.

If you want to install Firefox systemwide, so it can be used by all users, you have to do everything as root. Install it for example in /usr/lib/firefox .

If you install it from your user account you can install it only in your home directory and you are the only user that can run it.

Don't have to install it twice, user and root, best it is to do it as root.
Go and install it in an other directory, then remove the one you installed from.

Thanks, its installed under user account. I removed Moz 1.7 application icon from KDE task bar at bottom and want to put firefox icon there instead. How can I do this?? Again thanks!

It's best to install Firefox using an actual package.

Add Firefox to your normal menu. Then right click on taskbar and choose Panel menu -> Add --> Application and choose firefox from the menu.

Could be your options are named differently, because I'm translating from a Dutch version of KDE..

http://207.200.85.49/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ .... Then su as root mv firefox.xxx.tar.gz
to /usr/local/.... so then you should have this /usr/local/firefox.....
Then cd to /usr/local/bin....then do ln-s /usr/local/firefox/firefox.
Too add a link to /usr/local/firefox/firefox......
Exit root. then in a term... typr firefox
