Do you have any clue why the bios was bricked? Not something of having 'secure boot' on, or other mixes between uefi and old-bios settings? Without more info about these aspects of your system, makes me wonder whether 'linux' bricked your bios, especially after you had KDE running. In my setup there are windows-specific options related to the chip (intel smart connect. techn. and intel rapid start) which you rather want to turn off as, in my case the former prevented normal resume/suspend cycles and I had the feeling that my hard drives heated up more than normal. Something like this (overheating) might have stopped your computer midway.
