Installed 2.6.10 kernel on 10.1 and now I can't see command line...
Hey all

Well last night I installed the 2.6.10 kernel. Everything went good but now when I boot into the kernel I can't see anything. My screen goes black. (I don't have it auo boot into x, it boots into command line)

Well if I wait a bit and then log in (without being able to see anything) and then do startx then I am able to see and then as soon as I log out again, I can't see anything. The monitor goes black.

Does anybody know what is doing this?

Did you make sure to compile in framebuffer support and the fonts that go with it? That's what was my problem last time that happened to me.

Well I don't remember installing them since there was so much.

I went thru everything must the main thing i added was support for the emuk101 driver for my sound card. Everything else basically stayed the same as my old config.

I don't even knew where to start looking to fix this

Can anybody else help me? I searched with no luck and have no idea were to start looking to fix it.

su to root and edit your lilo.conf and change your vga= option to say // i guess do this from X
vga = normal
if this works (and i hope it would) then get a list of supported framebuffer modes for your vid card
lilo -T video
and set the vga option appropriately

after changing your lilo.conf be sure to run
and then reboot

ok I did the lilo -T video and it show supported frambuffers I guess. I had mine at 1024x768x256 but it didn't show up ... only 800x600x256 showed up along with ones below that. So then I did /sbin/lilo and not I am going to reboot and see if it works. I will post back.

Thanks for the help

ok I changed the number from 773 to 771 and rebooted but I still couldn't see. Now I am going to put vga = normal and see if that works

report back

cereal83 02-08-2005 11:13 AM

changed it to vga normal and it works

thanks sio

not sure why your framebuffer isn't working, I'm not familiar with what all is compiled into the 2.6.10 kernel *shrugs*
