Installation problem with Slackware 10

I've just downloaded the Slackware 10 installation CD .iso file and burned it to a CD. When I boot from the CD it starts okay but then hangs at a certain point, no matter what kernel I select. It stops at the message "hda : attached ide-disk driver." for most kernels. I used Partition Magic 8.1 to create the seperate partitions for Linux and have setup Boot Magic to allow me to switch between WinXP and Linux and have done this correctly. My system specs are Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 250GB SATA HD. My hard drive is controlled by IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (2 Intel 82801EB Utra ATA storage controllers). I've also got a DVD RW and a CD RW installed, but I think it's not detecting my HD only. Does this have anything to do with SATA? Bear in mind that I'm a Linux newbie, so I'm not going to be compiling any new kernels with ease just yet. Please help this poor soul who wants nothing more than to break free from the dark grasp of windows. Thanks in advance for your help.
