install Lilo without reinstall os


Hi there,

I just installed slack on my system, for some reasons lilo can't boot into the os. how can i reinstall lilo without reinstall the entire Os?

one way would be to get a live cd like knoppix, but if you haven't touched anything the default slack install should be fine. Be a little bit more specific like is lilo actually loading and if so can it boot into the kernel.

thanks xaos5 for helping me out, after i installed slack, and then i rebooted my system. then I see 99999999999999999999. how can i fix this problem?

are you seeing this problem before or after lilo loads? if its before lilo is messed up but if its after then your /etc/lilo.conf file is probably messed up. Either way it would probably be easier to go into a live cd and look at your lilo.conf.

Here is a sample from my lilo.conf file:

image = /boot/vmlinuz
  root = /dev/hda1
  label = linux
  read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends
The 2nd cd on the slackware set is also a recovery disc, now I don't know how to use it but you could probably use it to mount the harddrive and then look at the file and re-run lilo.
