Install Brother MFC3360 Printer on 13.1 - 64bit
I have a Brother MFC3360C printer that I would like to use. Has anyone had any success getting this printer working.? I've had it working on Fedora and Mandriva in the past but haven't been able to get it going on slackware. Printer setup recognizes it correctly but It's not in the list of available drivers for it and Brother only has 32 bit drivers for Deb and .rpm on their website, no 64bit.

You will need to install Alien Bob's multilib "compat32" packages.
This page can probably help you with installing your printer in Slackware.

Hope this helps.

Thanks trillobite. I did just what you said, I got Alien Bobs multilib and and followed the clear instructions, and got my printer installed - thanks for pointing me that way. I have a small problem still. When I print, the print job goes in the queue and stops. There is an error status saying "Your job was unable to print because there is a filter missing for Brother MFC3360C". I am able to see the printer in localhost:631 including very detailed information about it so it looks like the missing filter is my only problem. Do you have any idea what "missing filter" is all about ?
A little more information. I turned on debugging and ran the printer troubleshooter which shows the printers status message to be
"Filter /usr/lib64/cups/filter/brlpdwrappermfc3360c" not available - no such file or directory
I verified that that file does not exist. It looks like something is pointing to the wrong place.
Also I verified that that file DOES exist in:
/usr/lib/filter/brlpdwrappermfc3360c
Just need thing to point to /usr/lib NOT /usr/lib64
Thanks again

Did you check in /usr/local/brother/mfc3350c/
For setting up my printer, I had to run the cupswrapper. Make sure that you run it as root.
You may have to run a wrapper file to get the actual filter that it's asking for.
Also, did you use the ppd file to install the driver in the cups menu?

It looks like you may just need to create a symbolic link to point to the file.

Thanks Trillobyte
Yes, you were right. All I needed to do was to create a sym link. Once the sym link was there it started printing.
You were a great help trillobyte, thanks.

I'm pleased that you have the printer working. You should mark this thread as solved.
Best regards
