Initialise inetd

On the Slackware installation I chose not to allow inetd at startup. Now I can't figure out how to get it to run at startup. As far as I can see /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd is set to be run but when I log in there's no process for inetd running.

Also, is allowing inetd to run a bad thing? I remember hearing a lot of bad things about security and inetd a while ago but I'm not sure what they were.

Code:
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd
should do it, that means, if it's executable, see that with:
Code:
ls -l /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd
It's not bad to run it if you're using it, if you're not, probably it's just uses some extra resources and (by default) allows ftp access for users.
You can select which services you want inetd to run in /etc/inetd.conf, commeting the line for the service (with a # at the beggining) will disallow it.
