INIT: Cannot execute /etc/rc.d/rc.M wtf?
Slackware 14.1 64 bit, fairly clean install
Out of the blue, I get this on the console when rebooting: INIT: Entering runlevel: 3 INIT: cannot execute "/etc/rc.d/rc.M" If I login and manually execute rc.M, it seems to work and everything in the file runs that I think should run. No errors are displayed, and the last item executes normally. All I did was edit it and add a new section to it, identical to the other sections to auto start a daemon. When I saw this happen, I restored it to where it was before I screwed with it, but I'm still getting this. "wtf" at this point is a mild understatement.....what could I possibly have done to cause this? |
AHAHAHAHAHA did you know that if the first line in the file is:
#!/bin/shsh It won't execute? How the bloody hell did that get there? I'm going to go to lunch now and if I happen to pass a bar I probably won't be back.....it's too early in the week for weird things like this.... |
Have one for me! Looks like something I'd do....

Please mark this thread as [SOLVED] so that nobody else will see it and say "hmm, interesting" :-)
Thanks though :D |
6 minutes from post until solution, and the smart LQers didn't even have to offer anything; the mere act of posting caused you to find the fix!
THAT'S how good LQ is! |

Maybe if I just took a break and went outside to play for a few minutes the fix would have come to me? |
